Clenton Winford II was born in Michigan to Rev. Clenton and Shirley Winford. During Clenton’s early years, the Winfords were involved in the pastoral, evangelistic and teaching ministries. Over the years, Rev. Winford authored many religious tracts, pamphlets and books. Additionally, Rev. and Mrs. Winford (who is an artist) authored several gospel songs. These include "Where Did You Glean Today?" which Clenton recorded in 2001.
After completing high school in Michigan, Clenton moved to Texas where he has since earned a bachelor’s degree in political science, a master’s degree in public affairs and a doctorate of philosophy in political economy. His Ph.D. is from the University of Texas at Dallas where he focused on national legislation, its implementation and the subsequent court struggles - particularly in the area of disability. His most recent essay in this area is “The Civil Rights of People with Disabilities,” which is part of The Encyclopedia of the Supreme Court (Facts on File, 2005).(See the press release.)
Clenton continues to enjoy the university classroom - now as adjunct social science faculty - as often as opportunities and his other professional duties permit. He has served on the board of directors of an international non-profit organization. His business experiences include retail management, corporate public relations, professional writing, non-profit fund raising and his current position as member/business manager of a regional women’s healthcare facility.
Clenton has spoken internationally at churches and schools, taken part in panel discussions and been interviewed for radio, video and print media. In July of 2003, Clenton was featured in a video interview and performed three songs at the outdoor celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Clinical Center of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The video, "From bench to bedside and back again," can be viewed in its entirety on the NIH website. An edited version, featuring just Clenton, can be viewed here. In addition to Clenton’s business and community activities, he is an ordained minister with Anchor Bay Evangelistic Association. He serves as undershepherd at Lighthouse Worship Center, in Grand Prairie, but enjoys traveling for speaking and singing engagements whenever possible. These opportunities - for better or worse - are becoming less frequent.
